Union Power and Patient Care Are Incompatible: California Evidence

I recently wrote a column describing one of the major (unstated) goals of the federal take-over of Americans' access to medical services: giving union bosses control of hospitals and other health-care providers.

The media will not figure this out, but a couple of stories the last few days suggest that this is already happening, and describe a negative relationship between union power in medical services and access to care. Read more at State House Call.

Representative Joe Wilson earned a lot of criticism for calling the President a liar. The President's legislative opponents shoudn't waste their time in DC, but go back to their districts, where real discussion was happening. More at National Review Online.

Medical Malpractice Reform: Will Republicans Take The Bait?

The only new thing in the President's speech last night was his death-bed conversion to medical-malpractice reform, which one presumes is designed to draw some Republicans onside. It would be a bad idea for a couple of reasons, which I describe at National Review Online.
